Abstract

Research shows that people in the modern world increasingly suffer from loneliness. Our friends, family and partners have generally become too busy to address our hugging needs. To combat that, this sewing blog proposes a safe, efficient solution from the comfort of your own home.

The science 🧪

Okay, it’s more like upcycling rather than science. And no, upcycling is not when you cycle up the hill 🚲

I had a sweater I was no longer wearing and was pondering if I could use it somewhere else. Maybe make some other garment out of it? But there wasn’t much fabric. I guess then it can be a pillow? 🤷‍♀️ Pro tip: almost anything can be turned into a decorative pillow. It’s such an easy shape, very few seams. Big 💥 for your buck.

Since I didn’t want the stuffing to fall through the knit holes, I used some other fabric from the ‘what’s-this-?-i-forgot-about-you’ stash to line the pillow. And… well… it’s done ☀️ Not sure what else to say?

You insist I say more? Okay okay.

The clone

As I was looking around, I noticed the cut off sleeves from the sweater are just sort of… laying around. Aimlessly. Pointlessly 😔 Surely, I could use them? 🤔

And I sure did use them! To make arms for these sleeves 😆 It’s like I delegated the duty of wearing this sweater to the pillow instead of myself.

I think it’s turning out hilarious 😆 Here’s a quick review of the hand pattern that I drew:

  • The pattern designer is clearly inexperienced
  • The result is very amusing
  • Overall: recommend ✅

The hugging pillow

But really, let’s focus on the issue raised at the beginning of this post: the main advantage of this pillow is that it can hug you! 🤗 It has giant flimsy arms that will mostly try to hug you, but every now and then they will whack you in the face or sweep something off a table.

Final words

I think this pillow is so silly and comical 😂 👏 One of my favourite things to do with it is unexpectedly “attack” friends by running into them with the pillow’s arms wide open👌

Can you come up with any cheesy word-plays related to the hugging pillow? 🧀 Let me know in the comments if you’ve got any! 🤩 but you can also comment free-form, that makes me very happy 💯

See you at the next pink adventure!

Without trying I seem to be able to build up large stashes of material; beads; buttons; paper to name but a few … and it always amazes my hubby how I never seem to have all the elements I need for a project!!

I’m passionate about upcycling and saving items from landfill. Being able to experiment, explore and work outside of your comfort zone opens up possibilities, imagination and a greater creative outlook on things.

Totally agree! But I find it quite hard to do upcycling, I typically already quite clearly imagine what I want and almost never can find something laying around that matches it. I’m trying to do it more, though.
