… and I wrote 0 blog posts in that time 👼 I have prepared two excuses, pick your favourite:

  • A natural phenomenon, to some known as “the sun”, melted my keyboard away. It was impossible to type ☀️
  • My dog ate my homework. Wait, no, wrong excuse list 🦮 🤔 I don’t even have a dog.

So now let this post be a thank you note 💌 to all the fun, dazzling, and vibrant times that were had this summer. What do you think of when you hear the words ‘a summer staple’?

Anyway, I can’t hear your answer, so I will move on and tell you mine 😆 Festivals! And what do festivals mean to someone who likes fashion? Dramatic extravagant looks! And what do you think… no, don’t worry, questions are over.

Festival needs

This starts with being honest with yourself. I wish I was someone who could just wear a total of 10 cm2 (1.5 in2) of fabric on their body and feel adequately heated ♨️ That ain’t me.

So I decided to make a coat for those chilly evenings that inevitably force me to adopt the look that’s, frankly, more suitable to the Hunchback of Notre Dame (no offence).

Okay, but like… how is this coat going to be special? I enter the fabric store and I see the answer right in front of me:

Blue faux fur??? I simply love blue!!! 😍

… You called my bluff 😂 You know what I’m actually looking at.

Making the drama

I decided to use McCalls M7847 pattern for this project, but I made the pattern pieces longer, because… DRAMA! I want the coat to be boom 💥 baaam long (but not so long it would get soaked in puddles 😆)

Before you cut out the pattern pieces, the sheet can double as a napping cover! You’re welcome!

Interesting fact about working with faux fur – you can’t “just cut it”. That way the fluff would get trimmed to some awkward and, most importantly, variable lengths. You must cut the backing alone. See this picture – the fur stays long as the piece is separated:

So that was a small challenge ✂️

Another fun fact… You have to brush out the seams in order to have them neat. Yes, you read this right. Brush. As in… it’s “hair”, so you brush it! 😂

Soon, it was time for the lining. And here I made a mistake… I had assumed I’m not a perfectionist and mismatched plaids won’t bother me. Turns out, they do 😭 TIL… At least it’s all on the inside 😆

Bring in the drama

… are you ready for it?! Barbie enters the stage!

Oh, and just so you know – I saw Barbie movie 7 times in the cinema. I am that dedicated 💖

Lollipop bonus 🍭

I made a ‘lollipop bandolier’ and offered lollies to strangers whenever I wore the bandolier at some event. This little accessory was a summer hit! It’s surprisingly simple to make – it’s just 2 rows of chains that I hooked together with pliers and then the lollipops are what keeps the chains apart to give it the desired shape. The key is finding the chain of the right size so that the lollies fit very tightly.

Final words

Thank you for reading this 💕 If you enjoy these posts… please tell me 👼 That would be incredibly motivating for me 💖

Cheers to summer and see you at the next pink adventure!
